Short stories can be a difficult form for me, mainly because it requires an economy of expression while still creating a complete world. Every word is supposed to have its purpose.

I think my main problem is in pacing. I don't have enough time - or I don't write fast enough - to put out a singular work. As a result, they get too diffuse and rambling - they lose their focus. So most of the short stories here – like Cloud Cover and Songs Like Rusty Cage – were written and revised over several years, with a few exceptions (e.g., Toy Lists).
